ODENSE, Denmark
We took the train to Odense, from Copenhagen and really enjoyed visiting one of Denmark's oldest citied and the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, all over the city the write behind so many classic fairy tales. We could feel the atmosphere all over the city, from the museums to the old streets and colorful homes. We were lucky that the streets in the old town were pretty quiet too, probably because it was the shoulder season, which made wandering around feel even more relaxed and personal.
The song is written from our perspective as the two travelers.
The Travellers & the Town of Stories
By Simply Lost in the Right Direction DBA
Human & Machine
(Verse 1)
There once were two travelers, quiet and worn,
Who followed the rails through a soft Danish morn,
To a small riverside town, calm and still,
Where stories seem present in every hill.
The houses leaned gently in rows of old wood,
Like they’d held every dream they ever could,
And something in the air felt understood—
This was a place where stories once stood.
(Chorus)
Oh, Odense—quiet and bright,
Where ordinary days turn into light,
And every corner, every name,
Holds a whisper of the same old flame.
So side by side, they wandered through—
There’s magic still waiting for you.
(Verse 2)
In a small yellow home where the light felt warm,
A boy shaped stories that would take their form,
Of hearts that break and hearts that mend,
And simple truths we learn again.
A mermaid who gave up her voice for the land,
Still reaching for love she could barely understand,
A princess who knew, through a quiet test,
That even the smallest truth can rest.
A swan once rejected, then rising in flight,
And a king revealed in the open light.
(Chorus)
Oh, Odense—soft as a song,
Where broken and beautiful both belong,
And every ending starts to show
There’s more to life than we can know.
So hand in hand, they carried it through—
The story now living in two.
(Outro)
And the travelers left, but not the same,
With quiet hearts and a brighter flame,
For in that town where stories began—
They found themselves… and where they stand.
